Spring is in the air!

The first day of Spring, March 20th,

will be here before you know it!

Second graders have juststarted studying weather and how the temperature and seasons change during theyear.  We predict what the weather is going to be like everyday.  This weather has been tricky and it is hardto predict what the temperature will be each day!

As second grade begins our 5th Unit in Language Arts, we make sure to pay closeattention to the story elements and plot in each story we read.  Eachstory has a problem, events that lead to a solution, and of course a solution. When reading at home ask your child to identify the problem and solution…betthey can pick it out very quickly!

Don't forget tohave your child read for 20 minutes (or more) each night in addition to their nightlyhomework.

We are finishing upMath Unit 6 where we have begun to learn how to multiply!  New math concepts, such as fractions, measurement, and place value are sure to keep your second grader busy!  Wewill be able to recognize fractions as names for parts of a whole, orONE.  Also, we will identify lengths of distances using inches, feet, yards, centimeters, decimeters, and meters.  As we practice these concepts, please review addition and subtraction facts, money, and time at hometoo.  There is no such thing as too much practice!
