Welcome to 3rd Grade!
The third grade is having a great year of thinking and learning!
The students have been working on multiplication and short division. They are extending into facts with products whose factors are multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000. These skills are important for the use of estimation. The third grade will then move into fractions by naming parts, finding equivalent fractions and using fraction number stories.
The third grade is excited to be reading and discussing the chapter book, Stone Fox. They will participate in litrature circle groups and stretch their vocabualry, as well as be exposed to similes and metaphors.
In Science, the thrid graders have just completed the Health unit on body systems, and are looking forward to experimenting and observing non- toxic chemicals.
The students have been enjoying Social Studies and have just completed the unit on the Westward Movement and Immigration. They look forward to reading and studying the chapters on How Inventions Change Communities followed by Making Communities Safer. They will be discussing some famous people such as Louis Pasteur, Charles Drew, Jonas Salk and Jane Adams.
All third graders are working hard at mastering cursive and studying their multiplication facts.
Lastly, the students will be preparing for the NJ Ask, which will be given in May!
