Dear Parents and Families,
This week brought something truly special to Wandell. Our students had the amazing opportunity to welcome two very special guests, Hollywood legend Henry Winkler and children’s author Lin Oliver. The all-purpose room was buzzing with excitement as they shared stories, laughter, and lessons that will stay with our Wolverines for a long time.
Henry and Lin talked about never giving up, using your creativity, how children’s books are made, and what it takes to work as a team. They were so kind and genuine with our students, taking time to listen, to laugh, and to answer questions. Our kids did a fantastic job asking thoughtful and funny questions that had everyone smiling.
Many of you may know Henry Winkler as “The Fonz” from Happy Days or from his roles in movies like Holes and The Waterboy. To have such a huge star take time out of his day, on his way to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later that evening, and stop at Wandell was incredible. He spoke from the heart, took photos, and made every child feel special.
Lin Oliver, the author of more than 40 children’s books, was just as inspiring. She shared her humor, her love of storytelling, and gave our students a glimpse into what it’s like to bring characters and stories to life. Together, Henry and Lin showed us what it means to collaborate and to dream big.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best days we’ve had at Wandell. Watching the joy, the laughter, and the spark in our students’ eyes was a reminder of how powerful an author visit can be. What a wonderful treat for our school community.
